The Port of Port Lavaca – Point Comfort is located near the midpoint of the Texas Gulf Coast on the eastern shore of Lavaca Bay serving as a gateway to the world economy for the Texas Mid-Coast Region. The location is at the center of a 400-mile-long industrial complex stretching from Mexico to Port Arthur including some 250 petrochemical plants. This deep water port plays a vital role in supporting Texas chemical manufacturing industries and in providing a strong economic foundation and jobs for the people of Calhoun County and Mid-Coast Texas.

The Port is a leader in providing state-of-the-art facilities to handle the bulk liquid cargo needs for its petrochemical manufacturers and agricultural chemical suppliers. The multi-purpose dock gives port users additional options for handling project cargos, containerized, heavy equipment, roll-on/roll-off and dry bulk shipments. The major companies served by the Port include Formosa, Alcoa Alumina, BP Chemical, and Texas Liquid Fertilizer.

The Port maintains a strong emphasis on security and safety. The Port has in place control systems addressing personnel safety, mishap prevention, incident response and environmental protection. These include a remote control firefighting system, continuous video monitoring, hazardous material containment systems under all product transfer areas, and a storm water management system. The Port has developed a detailed emergency response program covering all operations in the harbor area and personnel at adjacent facilities. This includes an incident alarm and notification system, response equipment, designated shelter locations and evacuation procedures.

During the past decade the Port has assumed an increasingly more important community economic role. It is now the single most important tool for economic development in Calhoun County. Growth in recent years has placed it among the five busiest public ports in Texas in terms of cargo throughput.
